Zuzana & Michal Czech couple
― CYCLING ACROSS JAPAN ―

From the editor

The adventurous bicycle tour by a Czech couple, which began in Wakkanai in Hokkaido in early June 2019, ended safely when they reached the Kerama Islands in Okinawa in April 2020. Although their trans-Japan ride was impacted by a large typhoon in the autumn of last year and the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, the couple received warm hospitality, assistance, and encouragement from local folk at the places they visited.

The couple’s plan was not to have just a rubberneck tour of Japan, visiting famous tourist spots and taking commemorative photos there, but to immerse themselves in the places they visited, savoring the local cuisine and culture and interacting with the local people. It was a precious experience that definitely could not be obtained through virtual reality. Undoubtedly, through their epic tour, the couple got a taste of the real Japan. And after their return to the Czech Republic, no doubt they are telling others about the wonders of Japan.

Hopefully, as a result of this blog, the number of foreigners visiting Japan will increase as well.

In closing, the International Hospitality and Conference Service Association (IHCSA), which supported the couple’s journey, would like to express its sincere gratitude to readers who cheered them on their way.
